Maestro on Saint Viateur is a versatile spot that blends the feel of a coffee shop with the convenience of a lunch-ready sandwich shop and small grocery. Nestled in the heart of Montreal’s Outremont area, it’s the kind of place locals rely on for a quick but satisfying meal, a solid coffee, or a fresh pastry without fuss.

The vibe at Maestro leans casual and approachable. It has a small indoor seating area and a terrace outside, which fills up on warmer days with people enjoying their lunch or a coffee break. The space feels welcoming enough for a quick pit stop or a casual get-together—especially for those who appreciate something made with care but without pretense.

Breakfast here is straightforward but thoughtfully executed. The croissants are often mentioned, notably the butter croissant and the almond croissant, both made on site and celebrated for their fresh, flaky quality. One breakfast treat that stands out is the “Croque matin,” essentially a morning sandwich with eggs and Gruyère on a house butter croissant, offering a simple but hearty start to the day.

On the beverage side, the coffee lineup is solid and flexible, with everything from espresso and cappuccino to lattes and even the occasional surprise like PG Tips tea, which adds a touch of familiarity for those craving a classic cuppa. Prices feel reasonable given the quality and preparation—something appreciated by regulars who drop by daily or those grabbing a quick bite under $10.

Visitors using strollers or bringing friends find the service attentive and accommodating, with staff who don’t hesitate to help carry orders out to the terrace. The friendliness of the people working here seems to be a consistent part of the experience, adding to the laid-back charm.

Best times to visit tend to be mid-morning for fresh croissants or lunchtime for a sandwich in the sun. It suits individuals on the go, families enjoying a casual meal, or anyone wanting to pause their day with a genuine slice of Montreal’s local food scene. If you’re around Saint Viateur looking for solid staples and a no-fuss atmosphere, Maestro is a dependable spot.

Great spot in the area to pick up a filling lunch under 10$! The person at the counter was very friendly. Lots of options for the baguette sandwich. Either order on the go or dine in, there's an indoor dining space and an outdoor terrasse.

Best croissants I’ve had! We super were lucky to catch a new batch fresh out of the oven. Crumbly outside, soft inside! Also, the price was very reasonable compared to all other breakfast place we’ve been in Montreal. 100% recommend!

Delicious soup and almond croissant (croissant thought could be a whole meal by itself ). Very sunny , cool ambiance thanks to retro interiors. It's an old building and definitely has it's charm. Bartender was friendly and helpful.

Very good cortado and heavenly almond croissant, not overpriced. Peaceful place with pleasant design, well-lit and air conditioned. Nice patio, a lot of potential. Had a nice chat with barista and learned a lot about the value of this place for the local community. Will definitely be back!
